Oil on canvas

This portrait is a fusion of two great Sudanese women: renowned women’s rights advocate, essayist, and researcher, Hala Al-Karib, posing as one of her personal inspirations, trailblazing author and educator, Malkat al-Dar Muhammad. Conceived in 2002 and resumed in 2025, this painting pays tribute not only to Hala and Malkat, but also to the strength of Sudanese women everywhere, who hold each other up in the face of war, violence, and displacement.
Much gratitude to Manal Allagabo for her valuable cultural consultation.
